CD releases by The Chaps
Released on August 6, 2011 at a sold-out concert in Dunedin, "Don't Worry 'Bout Your Age" was later
selected as one of three finalists for the
RIANZ NZ Music Tui Awards Best Folk Album of the Year 2012.
Recorded over a three year period at the University of Otago Albany Street Studios by
John Egenes, it was
one of the first recording projects mixed on the new SSL desk installed in 2010.
Interestingly, the very first recording made by The Chaps and never released was done by the late John Clarke
in 1990 at the very same studios when they were owned by Radio New Zealand!
The CD contains 12 tracks with all but three penned by one of The Chaps. With the exception of Jane Clark
who played fiddle on three tracks, all instruments have been played by The Chaps and recorded simultaneously
and few additional parts have been added giving it an almost "live to tape" sound.

Following the
success of "In the Club" which featured tracks from a live concert, The
Chaps decided to produce a studio album. "Hiphopalong" was completed in 2003 and
features 14 tracks, including songs written by each of The Chaps and by
former New Zealander Paul Metsers.
The Chaps are ably assisted on this album by many other fine musicians
including Doug Wright, Chris Maydon, Jim Strang, Red McElvie, Mike Gibbs,
Robin Wellaway, Jo van der Laarn and a string quartet!
Nick Leaden and Nigel Jenkins engineered the recording of many of the
tracks with additional recording, mixing and mastering done by Hyram Ballard at Magnetic South.

A concert on 3 July 1993 at the University of Otago Staff Club was recorded on
16-track two inch tape recorder and selected tracks were overdubbed and mixed by Sid Limbert at
Remarkable Records in Queenstown, New Zealand.
The result is a fine collection of original material and other songs seldom heard
elsewhere.
Originally released on cassette, the CD release features four previously unreleased tracks
mixed by Hyram Ballard and John Dodd and mastered by Hyram Ballard at Magnetic South.
